Business

  • WHAT’S IN A NAME?

El Capitan glows in the early morning light in Yosemite National Park, California.

One question people have asked as I’ve gone through the process of starting up this business, is how did I decide on the name Steady Climb Financial Planning? After all, I could have just called it Chris Kimmet Investments and been done with it. I like my name just fine, but when I stopped to think about why I chose Steady Climb, it boiled down to three main reasons.

    It’s About the Journey

I wanted a name that represented how I think most people and companies achieve success, whether that’s in their career, business ventures, investing or for any other endeavor – through a steady climb. Just as with mastering a subject in school or learning to play a musical instrument, you get better with methodical and steady practice. There will be ups and downs along the way, but perseverance is the key. Saving, paying down debt and investing works the same way. If you are looking for someone to give you the hottest stock tip in the hopes that you can double your money overnight then I’m probably not the right person to work with, and I’d argue that you are setting yourself up for failure. But if you want someone to help you build a solid foundation and grow your wealth to achieve your goals then you are in the right place.

    Financial Planning is the Focus

I knew I wanted to use the term “financial planning” in the name, rather than using “investment advisor” or “wealth management” because I think that represents the value that I provide to my clients. I wanted to create a business where I can get to know my clients, understand their values and help them achieve their goals. Where we work together collaboratively to craft a financial plan does just that. Saving, investing, and paying down debt are all the pieces of the plan, but developing the plan and then helping clients to execute on it is the true goal of the company.

Right in the Thick of It

I wanted a name that I hoped would appeal to my ideal clients, People who are right in the thick of things when it comes to careers, families, and financial decisions, Taking care of the important things in life while keeping and eye on the future that’s coming sooner rather than later.  I want to help them make sure they are on the right track to achieve their goals for the future so that they can live their bet life today.

So those are the main reasons behind the name Steady Climb Financial Planning. If any of that resonates with you or if you have any questions for me, shoot me an email or schedule a meeting, I’d love to hear from you.

I enjoy breaking down personal finance and investing into easily understandable concepts, and helping to eliminate the intimidation that comes from managing your 401Ks, IRAs, and HSAs, along with everything else.
